The detailed tutorial that most guides don't provide - from materials to technique

Now I haven't seen any topic really explain how to powder a doll correctly. Most just say "use baby powder and then nothing else. No tips, no anything. Granted I could have missed some guides because the amount of forums and discords is numerous to say the least.

It can be daunting for a new owner. So here is a quick little guide and what I do.

This assumes your doll is fully cleaned and dried before hand

Materials and Tools

First is to cover materials. I use just regular baby powder. You can also get a higher quality powder made for silicone baby dolls but that is restrictively expensive in my opinion but it is an option if you are really worried about the condition of the paint and longevity. But we are talking about almost 4 times the price too.

Then we have the brush. I use a big thick barber's face cleaning brush. This makes applying the powder 800 times easier. A regular face mask you would use for woodworking or any high dust environment. And of course a vacuum. I leave the diatomaceous earth rods inserted (assuming you are using those) but that's a bit off topic.

Essential tools for the powdering process - proper equipment makes all the difference

Preparation and Location

Now for location. I prefer to do this in my bathroom. It has a solid flooring, walls that are non porous, and an exhaust fan to help with the dust. Plus plenty of room and light.

Ideal Location Checklist:

  • ✓ Solid, non-porous flooring
  • ✓ Non-porous walls for easy cleanup
  • ✓ Exhaust fan for dust control
  • ✓ Plenty of room to maneuver
  • ✓ Good lighting to see all areas

Step-by-Step Powdering Process

Positioning the Doll

So she's naked, headless and I lean her against the towel rack slightly spreading her arms out and legs. Think mid jumping jack. I have a standing capable doll with bolted feet. The neck / collar bone rests lightly on the towel rack and I basically paint her with the powder.

Application Technique

I start at the top, do the arms and work my way down. I can feel the brush stick less to her skin as the powder adheres to her skin. I also lightly run my fingers of my opposite hand around her body to catch any missed spots.

There is a stark difference of "traction" with the brush or my hand on a spot missed or not well powdered.

Then after I get done with that side I will turn her around and repeat the process on the other side. Making sure to get the underside of her arms, vagina / anus and underboob.

Pro Tip:

It's actually more fun than you would think. Like I said, it's a lot like painting. Plus you get to have your hands all over her in a kind of sensual way. Even though she doesn't have a head at this moment in time lol.

Finishing Touches

Then I clean her feet. At this point her feet are covered in powder. So much so I almost never powder them on their own. After that I will go back and clean up any powder that "bunched" up around places like the nails and labia. I remove the diatomaceous rods, close her legs and arms back and move her back to my game room.

Special Considerations

Powdering the Head

Now I haven't had to powder the head yet as I have a hard head and I have my Tifa as a display. That being said I would get a smaller brush, tie up her hair and do a similar process. Maybe get a soft bristle detail brush.

If it feels pleasant against your face it should be soft enough for hers. That's my thinking at least.

Drying Time

Then I vacuum up all the excess powder and I leave Tifa standing naked for 12-24 hours. I have dressed her right away but with black clothing I have found waiting 12-24 hours makes it much less likely to get powder all over the clothes, or at least as much.

Do you have to wait? No, but it is what I do usually. It is at this point that I put her head back on and a loose robe on her so she at least won't be butt naked for those 12-24 hours.

Why I Stand My Doll During Powdering

Why don't I powder her laying down? Well it's fresh powder and now you're going to put your clean surface on the floor. And this, to me, just works better in my head.

And it kinda makes me feel like I am one of those make up artists getting a celebrity ready for a photoshoot in a way.

Frequency and Personal Experience

This is at least a monthly or bi monthly ritual. Though I would do this after every close encounter to make sure she was well taken care of. But to me the part of cleaning and powdering is in itself intimate too so I think you would enjoy this time as well.

Realistically it would take 15 - 30 min or longer depending how fussy you might be. I enjoy doing it honestly.

"You know those people out there washing their cars? I wash and powder my Tifa. But I can hug my Tifa 8)"

Final Tips and Technique

There is no real technique as far as how to powder. I just dump some powder on the brush, and brush it on with even deliberate strokes, don't try to rush it or more will end up in the air or on the floor.

You'll feel the brush start to glide instead of grab as the powder gets applied. Same as when you check with your hand. But that's how I go about it.

Just take your time and enjoy it. You'll find a technique that fits your style. It's not rocket science.
