Taking the Leap
I was sort of skeptical at first with dolls at the beginning due to society and sort of peer pressure against it. I then saw Lucy from Game Lady and decided to jump in. Kind of a spur of the moment and an expensive one, but I just went through a relationship that ended on… cheating grounds and well…. I decided to try out a doll.
I decided to get the 156cm as I was worried about weight and did not get a more full-sized doll due to fear of weight. I personally do not regret the 156cm and well it’s actually my favorite body type.
A Welcoming Presence
After work, my outlet to largely vent is dolls. I still use video games but those outlets are largely just becoming more of a cash grab. I do however like putting on cosplays from video games on my dolls.
The Doll is your canvas for your own mind. Your doll will look great in almost any outfit or dress you decide to put her in. Coming home and seeing the doll can still sometimes create some unique butterflies as they wait for you to come home.
Dressing the Canvas
The great thing with dolls is you can have them wear whatever you like. I like my dolls being well dressed in feminine clothing. I largely like my dolls having dresses, skirts, outfits, and cosplays on just for being pleasing to the eyes.
Having such bold visual stimuli largely helps in a grey and bland world I currently live in. It brings something to look forward to when getting home from work. Also, it gives something for me to do as I do not watch TV or movies.
While I listen to podcasts, I edit a dress or cosplay for my dolls. Tailoring things gives a massive feeling of success when you put the outfit on the doll and enjoy her in it. My personal kink is clothed or partial clothed sex and I do fully enjoy the new outfits.
The largest issue for dolls is the waist to hips and zippers not being long enough. Learning tailoring has also helped me with fixing some of my own clothes that I have.
Investment & New Skills
I will say one negative thing has been my spending on the dolls but then again before I would spend this money on other stuff. I view this now moreso as some kind of investment as I only go after better quality stuff and put it aside for later tailoring.
I have built up quite a collection I do have to say, it has stopped my other addictions I have but I now have one of getting outfits for my dolls. Something that has slowed with time but there is still a desire to have the dolls wear something nice and new.
I use a lot of 3D printing and also carpentry in relationship to the dolls. I had some unused 3D printers as I never really used them, but once I started with the dolls, I now found a use for relearning printing and modifying files. I also am learning more slicing software to make parts for cosplays with a plan to eventually use that knowledge for my small side gig.
Body Types & Practical Advice
To pick outfits also depends on the doll body type as well. I do find particular bodies as better than others and you will have your own type. I currently have swapped around heads on Gamelady bodies as I personally like Ahri from LoL and decided to get a head from a 3rd party source but after looking through other doll bodies, I find Gamelady bodies to be my personal favorite.
The 156CM is top notch with the 171CM not too far behind. The 168CM is a Classic as well and all the other bodies have their own place and style.
For Beginners: If you’re on the fence, the 100CM Tifa (I have one) is also a good one to start out. If you are into cosplaying your dolls the 100CM Tifa fits with “My Size Barbie” clothing. There are many people on eBay who make outfits for this size and you can ask them to do a commission for you. It will be roughly 75 to 120 per cosplay outfit.
There are many benefits to owning a doll and it mostly involves saving money from dates but the cost will be a very quick way of spending on clothes. If you’re on the fence I'd say give it a try with at least the 100CM as it's easier to hide or a sub 40KG body like the 156 or the 166. I recommend an insert as well for ease of cleaning as it removes the task of a chore. Manyu swears by fixed but I swear by insert.
A creative canvas that became a rewarding journey.
