I believe we all have been there at some point: staring at the screen, scrolling through the dolls and asking ourselves a simple question that somehow stays stuck in our mind for hours: "Is it right? Should I buy one?"
For many people, the decision to buy a doll is not only about money or taste. It can also bring mixed emotions: curiosity, excitement, doubt, guilt, fear of being judged, or even the feeling that we are doing something unusual. These emotions are normal. In fact, they often appear whenever we are about to buy something personal, something that reflects a private part of our life.
To help you I am going to talk about my personal experience with it. Even thought I have a partner I wanted to buy a doll and I was very often visiting the Gamelady website, adding the doll to the cart and then feeling guilty and canceling everything.
I was pretty much scared of the judgement of my wife, how would she react to such a thing? Would she laugh at me? Call me a weirdo? And what about friends and family? Would they also judge me too? Am I going to be casted away from my family because of my passion? I was also concerned that it would be an expensive mistake.
And so I started reflecting on my own reason to buy it, was it an impulse buy? Was I going to use it? Why do I want it, for sex, photography, to fight loneliness? I started answering each question honestly without judging myself with the answer; I wanted one to fight loneliness and to have sex with it. Sometimes you need to be honest with yourself.
To be sure to be ready for what was coming I spent a long time reading about user experience in storage, cleaning and general use of the doll. It helped me prepare psychologically on what I needed to do.
Next thing I did was to talk about it with my wife, she shares the house with me so I wanted to get her approval. We sat down and I explained to her what dolls are and why I wanted one. She was reluctant at first but with enough discussion she gave me her go.
When she approved I gave myself the permission to buy it. Dolls are like sextoys, they are not something you will talk about with your friends or family and not everyone needs to know about it. Remember; you can do anything in the comfort of your house as long as it is legal and not hurting anybody. You should feel no shame when you make use of a sextoy and the world doesn't need to know about it.
When I received the doll my doubt and fear didn't disappear but then started to get smaller and more manageable and at some point I stopped thinking about them.
The majority of first time doll buyers will get a great feeling of fear overcoming it can be sometimes tricky to overcome. You must understand yourself and answer your own want truthfully to make sure that it is what you want. You should avoid impulse base-buy because it will make you guilty instead take your time and make sure you have answered every question you have before buying the doll of your dream.
